Our Team
Nikki Rule-Jackson
Chair of Trustees & Director
Bio: Founder and all round big cheese (she likes to think). Started the rescue on a whim after being handed a bucket of baby rabbit kits. Whilst living in Cornwall, she decided that she should perhaps open up a small rescue place so that animals who would never be permanent residents could be treated like guests and then wave goodbye and hopefully return back to the wild.
Little did she know what her small annex room would grow into!! Now a registered charity with upwards of 700 animals a year coming into the rescue, she often wonders was it worth it?
The answer is of course, of course it is! She loves it, just don’t take any notice of her moaning mid baby season.
Super Power: Surrogate hedgehog mum & duckling lifeguard..
Likes: Removing Ticks and squishing them.  Also stripping off publicly to go wild pond swimming with ducklings. 🦆
Dislikes: Lilypads, leeches
Favourite biscuit: Has been known to enjoy a Kitkat.
Valerie Jackson
Trustee / Assistant Manager / Avian Specialist
Bio: Inadvertently press-ganged into being a fairly major cog in the Rescue wheel. She spends her time working mainly with the other animals and birds, leaving the hedgehogs to Nikki and the volunteers. She has been known to complain about the workload from time to time (daily)
When there is enough time in the working day, she enjoys creating habitats to encourage natural behaviour in the hotel guests.
She is often the first speaker when she and Nikki give talks to various groups of people.
Super Power: Netting birds, rugby tackling foxes and geese and using a shepherd’s crook to good effect.
Likes: Seeing a clean and hygienic Rescue with everything returned to its place. Also using copious amounts of Elastoplast for injuries caused by guests etc.
Dislikes: Smells and maggots
Favourite biscuit: Bourbon obviously.
Kennedie Redpath
Trustee
Bio: First met the Big Cheese on the exotic hedgehog rescue scene a number of years ago! Her personal experience and forte lays with exotic mammals, but she’s always had a strong love for wildlife and their conservation and rehabilitation. After spending plenty of time with Nikki, Val and the LWH residents, big, small and tiny, she was honoured to be asked to join the team.Â
Besides the animals, her original background was in legal, policy and Human Resource – all the boring paper-pushing that makes for a (hopefully!) helpful trustee.Â
Kennedie’s current main role is listening intently to Nikki’s mid-baby season moaning, and providing frequent reminders that she wouldn’t have it any other way…Â
Super Power: Professional animal yapper
Likes:Â Hedgehogs, cats & Pepsi Max
Dislikes: Mornings, being cold & labels on clothes
Favourite biscuit: Jam & Cream
